Hard choice between Exceptional Talent and Exceptional Promise

I am appreciated to my reader Samuel, who asked me this question today. I had already got it several times before but answered in private messages. Hence, now is time to shed light on the subject of changing the route of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa by Endorsement Panel of Tech Nation.

The short answer is YES.
This is supported not only by the methodology of Tech Nation but also – a real practice. In our community of Tech Nation Visa holders, we have a couple of examples when people applied for Exceptional Promise but got Exceptional Talent. And vice versa.

Endorsement Panel sees the overall picture of applications and can say who is who in Digital Technologies :). Sometimes Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa applicants cannot assess themselves regarding the route to apply: Exceptional Promise or Exceptional Talent.

I have already written a piece of blog about this topic. But as I feel – it would be better to write about the critical difference between these two types of talented visas again. So, I consider two main aspects of the assessment.

1. Achievements

I will not tell you a joke about Nobel Prize this time, you can read it in my previous blog post, which I mentioned above. But it is true that based on your up-to-date achievements in Digital Technologies, you will be assessed as an Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise.

2. Age, Experience, Purpose

I know that every case is different, but I decided to make an attempt and clarify general criteria about these two routes.

An average holder of Tier 1 Exceptional Promise Visa is between his/her mid-20s – early 40s, who has 0 – 5 years in the industry. There are some cases with ten years of experience and more. But it will be rather an exemption on mid-level positions in companies which are working directly in Digital Technologies or are in the crossroad industries. But this person has to be directly involved in digital work, even if a company is not purely digital. In my experience, I got a couple of cases – people from Digital Departments in aviation, arts, and general consultancy got their endorsements. All these people have one similar feature. They feel that their Big Mission on Earth is not completed and want to do something new (launch a startup, start a social project, etc.). They understand that the level of success that is already achieved – is not the top one; they can do more.

An average recipient of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa is between his/her mid-20s – early 90s who have 3 – 20 years in the Digital Technologies and got a reputation as an expert in the field. This person has quotes, interviews, conference talks and other accomplishments of influencer on the Digital Technologies. The person has a clear purpose of scaling his or her experience via private consultancy (or work on their startup) and has a well-established approach in achieving this goal.

Finally, I think that it will be quite relevant to explain the difference between Exceptional Promise and Exceptional Talent using a vocabulary of our profession. It is like startup and scaleup šŸ™‚

Can I be endorsed for Exceptional Promise if I apply to the Tech Nation Visa via the Exceptional Talent route?

Applying for endorsement via Exceptional Talent does not preclude you from endorsement under Exceptional Promise should you meet the necessary criteria; likewise, using under the Exceptional Promise route does not prevent you from endorsement for Exceptional Talent.

In all cases, Tech Nation experts will establish whether you meet the necessary criteria to be endorsed for Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise.

Please note that the qualifying period for Settlement (ILR) depends on whether your visa is granted under either the criteria for Exceptional Talent (three years required) or Exceptional Promise (five years required).
