Fast Track updates in Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa route

Fast Track option in Endorsement for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa

Today we got updates to the Fast Track option of Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa. That is an interesting and promising change of policy regarding accepting digital talents and exceptional promises in the United Kingdom. Hence, I decided to make a brief of the changes to bring you more clarity what’s going on now.

Location matters

Your application will be qualified for the Fast Track option according to the “Regional Location” criteria. But only if you apply not to live in the Greater London. It is well-known thing that the capital of the UK has already aggregated enormous number of tech talents. So the Government would like to spread digitalization into the all territory.

As we know, in previous version, there was Empowering North strategy and seven cities to live in (Hull, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Sunderland or the surrounding regions). However, now the geography becomes wider.

Experience of Scale

This fast track option can be only applied to your visa application if you are applying as an “Exceptional Talent”  but not “Exceptional Promise”. An applicant has to provide evidence of two types:
  • to prove an existing membership of a senior management team or C-suite (CEO, CTO, CFO, COO, CMO etc);
  • show an ability to demonstrate extensive experience in scaling a digital technology business (ideally this company will have a headcount in excess of 50 staff)

Accelerator participant

This is a completely new approach of accepting digital folks in the UK. In order to apply for a fast track option as an accelerator participant, you must provide evidence of being accepted onto a recognised UK accelerator programme. The list of these 13 premium tech accelerators includes:
  1. Barclays Accelerator
  2. Bethnal Green Ventures (BGV)
  3. Collider
  4. CyLon
  5. Entrepreneur First (EF)
  6. Founders Factory
  7. GCHQ Cyber Accelerator
  8. Ignite Accelerator
  9. Microsoft Accelerator
  10. SETsquared
  11. Startupbootcamp
  12. TechStars
  13. Wayra.
However, this is definitely not enough to get endorsement. You also have to clarify details regarding your plans in UK outside of your involvement in the accelerator programme.
So, these three Fast Track options are the main ways how to get endorsement for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in 18 working days. As we see – no relocating teams and “Bridging the Gap: building UK scale-ups” with particular requirement for experts in niche technological areas.
