Ph.D for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa

PhD is (not) required for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa. Depends on your professional field.

Do you need to have Ph.D status in order to get Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa? The answer is yes and no simultaneously :). I know how it is confusing but to find the correct answer for your personal visa application, let’s dig deeper.

I got a question on my messenger:

“For applying Tier 1 Exceptional talent is PhD is mandatory?”

As I have already told above – it depends.

If you are applying for Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in Digital Technologies – you do NOT need neither Ph.D nor University degree at all. This is completely great news! The main point – you must be a star in your own professional area and how do you get your world recognition – it does not matter to much for the Endorsement Panel of Tech Nation.

The same situation we have with visa applications for The Arts, Fashion, Architecture, Film and Television. If you are applying for talented visa under any of these routes – you are not required to have Ph.D in your CV.

If you are applying for other areas like Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in Science (or Engineering, Humanities or Medicine) – you MUST have Ph.D as a basis of your application. You even cannot proceed further if you don’t. In the official Home Office Guidelines this requirement sounds like “Have a PhD or equivalent research experience”. However, it is very interesting to know any example of people who does not have PhD, but this experience and get their visas. If you are reading these words – drop me an email, please, I will be happy to chat.
