Talent or Promise? 4 differences between these exceptional visas

Exceptional Talent or Exceptional Promise visa - Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa Blog

Today we will rephrase a famous Shakespeare’s words “to be or not to be” into a slightly different manner. The question is “Exceptional Promise or Exceptional Talent Visa?”. I got a message from my reader: “Hi Andrii – some the exceptional promise visa exists for tech? Or only exceptional talent? I am wondering that. What the differences are…” Let’s consider the main of these differences.

  1. Tech Nation Guidelines on page 4, have a very narrow explanation – Exceptional Talent is a recognised leader, but Exceptional Promise is an emerging leader. In other words, for Talent, you must win Nobel Prize but for Promise – just to be nominated. Joke :).
  2. Requirements for supporting documents in Exceptional Promise and Exceptional Talent visa applications are the same. In other words, a person must have at least one KEY criteria and at least two QUALIFYING criteria. But the difference is within each of these criteria. For example, Exceptional Talent has to have a proven track record. However, Exceptional Promise needs to demonstrate his ability to get this record. Notably, a person has had two or more examples of innovation being a founder or an employee of the digital company.
  3. Briefly, the main difference between the Promise and Talent is in recognition of the talent. For Exceptional Promise – a person has to be recognised as a potential leader. But for Exceptional Talent – you have already had to be as a leading talent. How to understand this? I believe the most relevant measuring will be through financial achievements. If you are a founder of a company and it fulfils its business goals in reaching high profits – you can apply for Exceptional Talent. But if you are a founder whose idea became a reality but still not too profitable – try Exceptional Promise.
  4. Final and the most formal difference: Exceptional Talent Visa is issued for three years, and after this period, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). But Exceptional Promise Visa is issued for five years, and ILR may be used only after this period.

So I would like to write one more time – only you can assess yourself and understand is it better to apply for Promise or Talent. Several years in digital technologies are not a criterion. Your background also does not matter a lot. If you feel that you still have not achieved your primary goals as professional – probably, you have to think about Exceptional Promise. And if you understand that your highest peaks are ahead – it is better to choose Exceptional Promise.
But if you are a successful entrepreneur in Digital Technologies with many years of experience and a good record of your milestones – apply for Exceptional Talent. In any case, Endorsement Panel at Tech Nation has a right to change your visa route to Exceptional Promise and vice versa.
Good luck and if you have any questions – ask either here or via email.
